| I'm surprised that lit at all with the slow release. Mythbusters always seems to do these sorts of things wrong, but it always ends up working just enough to put it on tv. You would think that with all their researchers they would have known to use a pneumatically triggered valve in the very least. That one crappy electric valve they used couldn't hold a candle to even a 3 inch piston valve, let alone a 4, which is really what is necessary for something that large. Or 3 pounds of black powder. |

| You sound like a Spudfiler, Mr. Nighthawkinlight. Personally, for something this big, I'd suggest a 10" pneumatically actuated butterfly valve - it would provide a more sustained airflow, it wouldn't be as much of a b*tch to work with as a TBD valve, and it can be bought fully assembled (vital, if you don't quite know what you're doing, but have the funding and resources to try it anyway :P). |

| Ahhh, you caught me ;) I wondered if someone would. Actually I never got into Spudfiles, just about the time Spudtech forums closed I was getting out of cannon building and moving more into pyrotechnics. I sure did love building a big piston cannon back in the day though. I agree with you on the butterfly valve, that would be a smart move. All that creamer might fall back and gunk up a piston as well. |
