Scientists have recently discovered that the KD does actually have a weak venom in it's saliva, as well as a great deal of bacteria. It poisons in the same manner as a gila, although nowhere near as toxic.

There's two reasons why the bite kills. While the saliva is part of it, there is also alot of lethal bacteria within the reptile's mouth. It's a lethal combination of digestive fluid and fatal bacteria. Would be difficult to find which parts has potential to cure a disease, given that a cure is even present.
