From what I heard, she said it because the director of the films wanted Dumbledore to have a love interest and wanted a reason why he couldn't. So she said that he was gay, and I think she also said that he was in love with Grindlewald.

to me, that doesn't make sense. who cares whether the character is or is not gay? that doesn't alter neither the character itself, nor the plot, nor the overall message of the book. especially now that several books and movies have been brought out and everyone knows what Dumbledore is about. this is totally messy, and the video really seems to be an April fools' day joke.

I kind of expected Dumbledore to be gay. He's never really had a girlfriend, and never been married. And all that talk about love...I'm surprised more people didn't see it before. It's just one of those things that show how much thought J.K. Rowling puts into her characters. She's thought it through. I doubt she would say Dumbledore's gay just to make the gay community happy. She doesn't seem like that kind of author.

no, California voted for a ban on gay marriage (prop. 8). Prop 8 was created in response to gay marriage being legalized in CA earlier in the year. San Francisco and our mayor, Gavin Newsom, is largely responsible for gay marriage being legalized in the first place. When prop. 8 past, the streets of San Francisco rang with protest. SF is the most gay-friendly place in the world. If we could, we would probably be our own little nation under the rainbow flag.

It really does make sense, if you go back and look through the books, mostly 6 and 7 cuz we here and learn the most about him in those two. It is a little odd that she would just randomly anounce it, but maybe she just wanted to add a little something for fans to ponder now that the series is over.
